Is The Simple Practical Prepper Lifestyle For You?

Are You Ready For The Prepper Lifestyle?

Have you ever longed to have a less stressful lifestyle?  We plan so many aspects of our life but have your plans to survive in future economic and turbulent times been part of your planning?

I’m sure you’ve heard the word prepper, and when you do hear that, do you think of selling your house in the subdivision and living off the land in some remote location?  That is not necessarily the lifestyle we are discussing.  Some people believe that problems, disasters, or catastrophes could happen shortly. They think that having extra food, water, and other supplies is prudent during a survival situation.

Do You Live Near Natural Disasters?

It is essential to know the natural disasters in your area and prepare for them.  These few pages will give you the information you need to look out for disasters in your area and the survival techniques for your family.  In addition, there are ways to help protect yourself so that you can avoid it and be prepared during any emergency.

Almost every place in the country or city where we live has some risks from natural disasters. For example, the folks who live on the east coast have potential hurricanes fromWildfire May until November. Those that live in tornado alleys have tornadoes and thunderstorms. Also, many places in California must worry about fires and the resulting mudslides from those fires. In addition, if you live in a major metropolitan city, maybe you might be thinking it might be a good time to leave.

If you prepare for any of these potential disasters, you are thinking of your household’s safety and survival. Preparing for any future emergency situation is only intelligent.  You are thinking about things that could happen to you and your loved ones and preparing for short-term and long-term problems. Some people like to prepare for eventual stuff in the future, and some want to live day-to-day. Unfortunately, not everybody is ready for the prepper lifestyle, to play the long game in a survival situation.

Maybe You Are Not Ready To Be Prepared.

Suppose there are certain things that you’re not ready to give up, such as going to the deli, needing to have your favorite coffee from down the street.  In that case, this lifestyle is probably not for you.  If you set aside money for your survival lifestyle and then use that money to buy new cross trainer shoes or a new recliner with it, you’re not ready.

Suppose you’re not willing to give up the conveniences of your life, TV, cable, Netflix, or social media.  If you can’t imagine yourself without the modern technology we enjoy today, you know this is not for you.

We know that we should have survival preparedness plans in place for when tragedy strikes.  Are you ready to take on the responsibility of doing that?  Many in the community go about their daily lives, not thinking that anything bad could happen to them, family, or friends.  While that is a great way to live, it doesn’t make good sense.

Lately, we have seen significant catastrophes that have had a devastating effect on society.  Look what COVID-19 did to the world.  Some in our community had followed survival books and had a plan for something similar.  They had materials on hand, stored safely, for survival in a world where everything we knew changed.  But maybe you do not have what it takes to be prepared?  I hope this article might make you think that you really should look at preparing for the subsequent survival situation.

Are You Ready?

So how do you tell if you would be an excellent candidate to prepare for the future.  It takes a particular commitment to live the life of being organized and prepared.  If you’re going to play with it or dabble in it, then the prepper lifestyle is probably not what you should do.

I’m not saying to be the hardcore survivalist.  You know the person that goes out and stashes their supplies around the country.  Still, it takes a specific commitment to plan your life and keep track of what you’ve planned and things you need to look at for the future.

Suppose you think that you can walk away from being dependent on others and love the idea of calling your shots, then the prepper lifestyle may be for you.  You need to understand that what you are looking for is a better lifestyle for your family.

If you have a bit of rebel in you and feel you could organize your life and can put up short and long-term supplies, this might be the lifestyle you’ve been yearning for.

If these things intrigue you, you might be ready to take a different approach to your life. Of course, being self-sufficient and taking care of yourself and the ones you love are always good to know and how to do. But, if you’ve ever had a desire to take a more proactive approach to you and your family’s life, you might want to pursue it further.

What Should You Do Now?

Being prepared is not necessarily what you see on TV in some programs.  It just means that you’re willing to prepare yourself for any calamity that may come your way, either short-term or long-term. Of course, natural hazards are regional, and you can prepare for those.  Still, it would be best to prepare for an economic collapse, governmental collapse, and health crisis like we currently have.

Being prepared for future events is suitable for your tribe to get involved. For example, suppose you are the only person in your family that sees a need for preparing.  In that case, some education and discussions might help others to see the benefits of preparing.

If the thought of learning new techniques and skills to prepare for your future is against your core belief, then do not go down this path.  Most folks can envision a day when we have some natural or regional disasters that will affect our lives.  If that happens and you’re not prepared for it, then you’ll have to suffer the consequences of your earlier decision.  Think about those things and ask yourself the question, do you have what it takes to be a prepper?
