Five Easy Sure Ways To Survive The Apocalypse

Survive the apocalypse;

that’s what you want to do?  Unfortunately, most people aren’t ready for that to happen.  Think about a city or region you live in; what kind of catastrophes could happen there?  Where I live, we had wildfires in the mountains.  While it did not directly affect us in town, except for smoke and haze, we did have to take certain precautions when traveling.

We have had tornados in this area, and about seven years ago, we had someWildfire terrible floods that we are still dealing with that fallout from them.

Given that disasters could happen anywhere, what do you need to do to prepare for each one?  Yes, I said each one.  Losing your electricity during a frigid winter day is different from losing it during a sweltering summer day.

Looking past natural disasters, you also have economic or governmental problems.  We have not had that experience here, but we also think about rioting or invasions.

Five Things to Help Prepare Yourself

Get Your Family Involved to Survive The Apocalypse.

We touched on it earlier, but one thing you need to do is prepare for your apocalypse.  Go through different scenarios that could affect your life and brainstorm on what tools and supplies you would need for each to demonstrate preparedness in an apocalypse.

This exercise could replace game night until you feel you have covered all aspects of your preparedness.  Just remember, this may not be a one-and-done exercise.  As days, weeks, and months go on, you may want to revisit your planning worksheets.

Remember You Need to Eat and Drink Water.

A critical need we have as humans is water, followed by nutrition.  We can only survive a few days without water but a lot longer without food.  Ensure you have a source of clean water available to you wherever you are or have a way of obtaining clean water.

Water BarrelsYou can store water in food-grade barrels at home.  Not necessarily those food-grade barrels on the right, but barrels for water. There are many water purification techniques and gear you can use to clean water in the wilderness while you survive the apocalypse.

Also, there are long-term food supplies for home and some lightweight food you can take with you in your backpack to sustain your family.

There can’t be a worse feeling as a parent knowing you can’t properly feed your family when the apocalypse strikes and your kids are hungry and thirsty.

Take Stock of Your Existing and Future First Aid Supplies!

The last thing you need is to have an injury and an inadequate or empty first aid kit available.  There are various first-aid kits available to treat many different types of injuries.

Survival First Aid KitYour kit should contain more than a handful of bandages.  Ensure you have adequate supplies for bleeding, burns, sprains, fractures, and various medications and topical ointments.

Just because you have a first-aid kit does not relieve your responsibility to learn first aid.  One way to protect your family is to take a certified first aid training course.  Training will be valuable information that will benefit you your whole life.  Being able to help an injured friend or family member during a crisis could be one of the most important things you could do for that person.

Remember, when all family members know first aid, everyone will be able to pitch in if an injury does occur and help treat and calm injured people.

Communication Is Essential.

No matter what it means to you to survive the apocalypse, it is always good to have the means to communicate with family, police, or emergency centers.  Years ago, we tried to get back home during a heavy snowstorm in Colorado.  Our cell phonesatellite communicator was almost dead, and we didn’t have a car charger with us.

We used it sparingly to talk with our son, who was at the house, but if our phone died, he would not have known where we were and if we would be able to get home.  It took us 5 hours to travel 40 miles, we made it, but it was touch and go for a bit.

It seems everybody from 4 to 94 has a cell phone today.  One of the items you should have as part of your emergency plan is a spare charged battery or portable power bank.  I would suggest you look at the solar-powered ones as somebody could use this outdoors in extreme cases.

One thing to consider is if this is a regional apocalypse, you may not be able to get through to the cell towers depending on the volume of activity.

Also, depending on your location in the country and the terrain, cell service may not be available.  In that case, a walkie-talkie or satellite phone would be a good option.

Nothing Says I Am Prepared Better Than Great Survival Gear.

Remember, from the first step; you will want to make a checklist of all the gear you need for each situation.  You do not need to have everything under the sun to survive.  You would be surprised at how little you do need.  But please do not go to the local discount store to purchase your survival gear.

Your life may depend on your selection of gear.  In all instances, think multi-functional and great value.  You may not need the 500-dollar knife, but you sure as heck don’t want the $9.95 special on clearance.

If it is part of your survival gear, you need to know how to use it before you need to use it.  When you are in a stressful situation, that is not the time to figure out how to use your tools.
